Thanks so much for sharing Gretchen. Some day I'd love to have you write some of your own story of Bible reading here if you're open to that. It would encourage many, I'm sure.

Your post certainly aligns with my own experience. As I have read the Bible consistently and relationally, as you put it, over the past 10 years, the Holy Spirit has confronted my hard heart head on. Over time, attitudes, desires, pursuits, etc., have dropped away or changed in response to the amazing love expressed through the triune nature of God...my Comforter, Savior, and Heavenly Father. Though the battle with my hard heart is constant, I am learning to come to my Bible reading with anticipation that those dark corners of my heart will be illuminated and I will be drawn to repentance by God's love. God calls us to be holy, without compromise. In reading this post, I was reminded of the old hymn:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in his wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of his glory and grace.

Ron, this is the first time I've posted, but please know that my heart has often been encouraged and challenged by your posts, and I have directed many others to your site. Thank you!
